This course combines sailing knowledge with teaching techniques designed to help you convey what you know in a clear, practical and effective way.
What will you learn?
During the course, you will cover the fundamentals of navigation, such as:
✅ Nautical charts and route planning.
✅ Bears and distances, as well as how to determine positions.
✅ Tides and currents.
✅ Aids to navigation.
✅ Electronic navigation.
✅ Trip planning.
At the same time, you’ll develop teaching skills: how to prepare a lesson, explain technical concepts without overcomplicating them, use a variety of resources and assess your pupils’ progress.

Required certificates
- RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence or RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor
- Teaching in the Classroom (from 1 March 2019)
- You have successfully completed the Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Offshore shore-based course. If the course was not completed recently, it is important that candidates revise the entire syllabus.
